What is a hackathon?

“Hackathon” is a portmanteau of “hack” and “marathon”, in which “hack” stands for innovation instead of its alternate reference to computer crime. It is an event for computer programmers, software developers, engineers, graphic designers, interface designers, and project managers to collaborate intensively and create feasible solutions targeting daily issues. Normally, a hackathon would last for several days with participants working around the clock building a prototype for their projects.
